Over four days, you get to experience some of what the Adelaide region has to offer. During your stay here you'll have lunch on board The Proud Mary on the Murray River and visit a chocolate factory and cheese maker in Woodside as well.
You'll visit Hahndorf and the Adelaide Hills on an included day tour, winding your way through several historic villages that dot the Mount Lofty Ranges, stopping at Hahndorf, a town that's brimming with cultural discoveries. The Adelaide Hills are home to some of South Australia’s best food, wine and scenery.
Then after a free day, you'll head off to Kangaroo Island to stay overnight and then embark on an immersive tour of the island's highlights. You'll be returned to Adelaide for one last relaxing night. Then the cream on top of course is an overnight trip on the legendary Indian Pacific from Adelaide to Sydney. This is an all-inclusive experience with an off-train excursion in the Blue Mountains.
* Some Indian Pacific 2023 departures are still available but they are selling fast. Enquire today.
In the style of most Global Escapes Independent Traveler itineraries, this is a perfect blend of self-guided adventure and forward-planning to ensure that the main elements are organised in advance allowing for plenty of time to relax and take in each place you visit.
We guarantee to beat any competitor accommodation-only quote or travel package price and/or value by a minimum of 15%. Conditions.
We guarantee to beat any competitor accommodation-only quote or travel package price or value by a minimum of 15% ("price-beat") on the following conditions:
Note: By requesting a price-beat you are under no obligation to place a booking with us or proceed with the final travel package as the case may be. A non-refundable deposit is required in the case of a tour/travel package price-beat (see below).
The following terms and conditions apply to travel plans and accommodation quotes requested from and supplied by Travel Directions Pty. Ltd. trading as Global Escapes Travel, Australian Escapes Holiday & Travel Club (Australian Escapes) and Kiwi Escapes (the company) and are subject to change without notice. These conditions are to be read in conjunction with our standard booking conditions and conditions applicable to Australian Escapes Holiday & Travel Club membership as defined in website FAQs.
There are two main scenarios:
(1) You request a price-beat on a specific property. Our objective is to provide at least 15% more total value or a price that is 15% lower than a competitor quote supplied to us for the same accommodation property, on the same conditions and with the same inclusions, provided we have access to be able to book the accommodation through our normal supplier channels.
If we do not have access to member rates that property we will offer an alternative that is of the same or higher standard, as per our hotel rating system and that meets the stated requirements, subject to availability, and subject to the following:
(2) We propose a property with member pricing: If the "you pay" price we submit is already discounted using GCash travel credits and the lowest available price at the time it was submitted, it does not qualify. Otherwise our objective is to provide at least 15% more total value or a price that is 15% lower than a competitor quote supplied to us for the same accommodation property, on the same conditions and with the same inclusions.
A price-beat will be deemed successful and this guarantee is therefore met when the applicable objective is achieved.
Inclusions in travel and tour packages assembled by competitor travel agents, tour companies, wholesalers, online travel promoters will all be different in some way. Packages will typically vary by inclusions, validity, suppliers, component type, standard, terms and conditions, travel date, etc ("package components").
Our objective in this type of price-beat situation is to assemble a package containing similar and/or higher value package components to that which you present to us. We guarantee to offer at least 15% more total value (through added value) or a price that is 15% lower than the competitor quote ("successful price-beat") subject to the following:
A price-beat will be deemed successful and this guarantee is therefore met when the above objective is achieved.
The price-beat must be requested before you place a booking with any other travel agent, online booking agent or property direct in relation to the subject accommodation or package.
A price-beat may be requested by providing clear, written evidence of the competitor quote as well as your requirements to an employee of the company who performs a reservations or travel consultant role ("company contact") as follows:
A competitor quote presented under this guarantee must be genuine (not contrived) and must be a final, fixed price, backed by verifiable evidence. A competitor quote that we determine is not genuine or final is excluded. The requested date range(s) for travel/tour commencement as well as for individual package components must be realistic and flexible.
This condition applies to travel/tour packages only. We require up to $900 deposit per person (amount depending on package complexity) as a guarantee that you will proceed with the travel plan after we are successful with the price/value beat. This requirement exists because of the amount of travel consultant time required to price according to a competitor quote.
Your Australian Escapes Holiday & Travel Club membership must be Gold level or above and active and paid up at the time of requesting the price beat.

"The pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset with which we travel than on the destination we travel to" - Alain de Botton
Just 2 hours and 10 minutes west of Sydney is Adelaide. It was by comparison - a sleepy village, but over time Adelaide has become sophisticated, cultured, "neat-casual", with a lot to see and do. Multicultural flavours infuse Adelaide's restaurants; there's a pumping arts and live-music scene; and the city's festival calendar has vanquished dull Saturday nights.
Check into your hotel and plan the rest of the day and/or evening with your Lonely Planet guide to help you make the most of your stay.
The Adelaide Hills was a popular place for German immigrants to settle during the 19th century, with many of them naming their new villages or towns after something relevant to them. In early 1918, when the Nomenclature Act was proclaimed many towns changed their names including Blumberg (to Birdwood), Grunthal (Verdun), Hahndorf (Ambleside), Lobethal (Tweedvale) and Germantown Hill (Vimy Ridge) for example. Hahndorf is perhaps the most famous village that you will visit on today's tour.
Your driver will take you through several of the historical villages that dot the Mount Lofty Ranges, to later stop in Hahndorf for the afternoon. Discover the shops, cafes, and picturesque streets on your own. Have afternoon tea or a German beer tasting and experience a little of the German cultural influence here.
Travel from Adelaide to Murray Bridge to start a day trip that includes a lunch-time cruise on the Murray River. After lunch, you'll take continue with a coach tour, stopping for photos of the sweeping views. You'll visit a working chocolate and confectionery factory at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills as well.
Hotel pickup and drop-off is included. Learn about the Murray River ecosystem, sample locally made cheeses and chocolates. Includes the river cruise and lunch.
Today is a free day. Perhaps visit the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. It's right in the heart of Adelaide city with over 50 hectares of lush parkland. Spend all day or just a couple of hours enjoying several different areas including a formal rose garden, wetlands, three glasshouses housing Australian rainforest plants, Amazonian water lilies, and Madagascan palms.
Definitely one of the best things to do in Adelaide is browsing the vendor stalls at the Adelaide Central Markets. It is the largest covered market in the southern hemisphere with over 70 vendors selling fresh produce, meats and cheeses, seafood, baked goods, health food, and handmade items.
This morning you're free to enjoy more of Adelaide's highlights. Leave your bags at reception after you check out. This afternoon you'll take a scenic coach transfer to Cape Jervis to board the ferry to Kangaroo Island.
Tonight you'll stay in Penneshaw at a 4-star, silver standard hotel which overlooks the ocean, an idyllic setting for your stay here. Relax, dine at the hotel, and get ready for a big day tomorrow.
Your tour starts after breakfast. Today you'll be seeing the highlights of Kangaroo Island. Just one of the highlights is a guided walk on the beach among a colony of rare and wild Australian sea lions, a truly amazing and unforgettable experience.
After a delicious two-course lunch, you'll spend the afternoon at the Flinders Chase National Park. See the rugged coastline from walks around Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. Remarkable Rocks provide great photographic opportunities, and the Admirals Arch boardwalk takes you down a rugged cliff face to reveal the spectacular rock archway, a natural nursery, and a haven for playful long-nosed fur seals.
Your last visit of the day is to the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park to feed some kangaroos and get up close to the Kangaroo Island koalas while listening to the keeper talk about the cuddly mammals.
There is also a possibility that you will see more kangaroos and wallabies on your return to Penneshaw for your return ferry and coach transfer back to Adelaide where you stay overnight to relax before the next highlight of your trip.
Boarding is from 8.15am for a 10.15am departure, arriving in Sydney at 3.15pm on Day 8. Enjoy lunch, dinner and breakfast on board. Regionally inspired meals are paired with all-inclusive fine wines and beverages.
After dinner, join your fellow guests for a late-night drink or head back to your cabin for the night.
This is a train trip to remember.
Awaken to the splendour of the Blue Mountains. Disembark the train and marvel at the expansive views and natural surrounds.
Take a walk through the eucalypt forests or take the cable car for a bird’s-eye view of this World Heritage listed landscape before completing your journey on the dedicated NSW rail service (hosted by rail company staff) into Sydney Central Station. Alternatively, stay on board to travel directly to Sydney. You'll arrive at either 12.15pm or 3.15pm depending on the Blue Mountains option you choose.
Take another train from Central Station to the airport (15 minutes) for your afternoon flight home. Or stay a night or two in vibrant Sydney.
This is a trip to remember with many different experiences, from beer tasting in Hahndorf to nature walks on Kangaroo Island, with lots in between, capped off with an amazing rail trip to Sydney.
