DAY 1: ATHENS (3 NIGHTS)

Welcome to Athens, the vibrant heart of Greece! Once you've settled in, the rest of the day is yours to explore this fascinating city at your leisure. You can stroll through the quaint streets of Plaka, soak up the lively energy of Monastiraki Square, or watch the ceremonial changing of the guard at Syntagma Square.

Consider dining at the charming Tavern Klimataria, indulging in local meze at Dio Dekares i Oka, or enjoying a contemporary twist on classic dishes at Athiri. Whether you prefer to unwind or dive into the city's vibrant atmosphere, your first day in Athens is sure to provide a memorable introduction.

DAY 2: ATHENS AND ACROPOLIS

Discover Athens’ iconic Acropolis, where you’ll marvel at the Parthenon, the Theater of Dionysus, the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Erechtheion. Start with the majestic Parthenon, dedicated to Athena, then admire the Temple of Athena Nike, the Acropolis’ oldest structure.

Visit the Erechtheion, famous for its Caryatids, and explore the ancient Theater of Dionysus. End at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a grand Hellenistic Roman theater known for its impressive performances. The panoramic city views from the top are breathtaking.

DAY 3: FREE DAY IN ATHENS

Amid Athens' bustling urban energy and chaotic cityscape, it's easy to overlook that the vibrant coast lies just 10 km from the city center. Many travelers miss the chance to explore it, but it’s a must-see. On your third day in Athens, venture to the nearby coastline for a change of pace.

Start at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, which offers family-friendly programs and beautiful waterfront gardens. Nearby, enjoy fresh seafood at “The Grandmother Elizabeth” or upscale dining at Flisvos Marina.

In the afternoon, consider a private tour of the Athenian Riviera, including towns, beaches, a thermal lake, and the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio for a stunning sunset. For dinner, savor a seaside meal or return to the city, with Oinopoleion Taverna as a great option.

DAY 4: ATHENS - SANTORINI (2 NIGHTS)

Start your Santorini adventure with an early flight from Athens. After checking into your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy.

Consider heading to Firá for a scenic hike along the Caldera, where you'll be treated to stunning bay views. The walk from Fira to Oia takes about 2.5 hours, passing through the charming villages of Firostefani and Imerovigli, with a perfect lunch stop at Avocado. The trail leads to Oia, known for its picturesque beauty.

DAY 5: SANTORINI SUNSET CRUISE

Enjoy another free day to fully immerse yourself in Santorini’s beauty. We highly recommend visiting the striking Red Beach, followed by a visit to the picturesque village of Pyrgos, where you can take in stunning views from its hilltop castle. Don’t miss the historic Church of Panagia Episkopi, and take the time to explore the local art galleries and outdoor exhibits. Use your Lonely Planet guide to plan the perfect day.

In the evening, treat yourself to a sunset cruise aboard a traditional wooden sailboat. Be sure to book ahead, as this popular experience fills up quickly. End your day with dinner at Kapari Taverna in Fira, where you can enjoy flavorful mezedes and savor local Assyrtiko wine.

DAY 6: SANTORINI - MILOS (2 NIGHTS)

Make your way to the port to catch your ferry to Milos. Upon arrival, pick up your rental car and check into a hotel in Adamantas, conveniently located near the port.

The rest of the day is yours to relax—consider a refreshing evening swim at Lagada Beach, followed by dinner at Mikros Apoplous, where you can savor fresh seafood and local delicacies.

DAY 7:  THALASSITRA BOAT EXPERIENCE

Enjoy an optional full-day boat tour around Milos on the beautiful wooden sailboat Thalassitra. This tour, which departs daily at 9:00 am and lasts 10 hours, offers a chance to explore the island’s diverse coastline, including the stunning Kleftiko Bay, accessible only by boat. You'll have opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, and savoring a delicious lunch onboard.

 

Alternatively, driving around Milos is a fantastic way to explore its diverse landscapes and hidden gems. The island’s mostly paved roads, especially around Adamantas, Plaka, and Pollonia, make travel easy. Enjoy stunning coastal views, charming villages, and must-see spots like Sarakiniko Beach, Firopotamos, and the volcanic areas.

DAY 8: MILOS TO SIFNOS (3 NIGHTS)

Sifnos, with its sandy beaches, incredible food, and the iconic Chrysopigi church, remains a hidden gem off the tourist radar.

Drop off your rental car before catching the ferry to Sifnos. Upon arrival, pick up another rental car for easy island exploration. Drive to your accommodation, and then enjoy the rest of your day at your leisure.

DAY 9:  FREE DAY AT SIFNOS

Today is a perfect opportunity to explore at your own pace, and we suggest starting with a beach day. Put on your swimwear and head to Chrysopigi Beach, renowned for its beauty. 

Enjoy swimming, relaxing on the sand, and visiting the breathtaking Monastery of Chrysopigi, one of Greece's most iconic and photographed landmarks. After soaking in the views, cross the small bridge to the nearby church on its own little island. If you're up for it, follow the path down to the water and enjoy a swim along the rocky coastline.

For dinner, consider visiting Xryso, a restaurant offering traditional cuisine in a charming courtyard setting. From your table, you’ll see the vegetable garden that supplies the restaurant’s produce. Try the chickpea soup, mastelo (lamb or goat baked in red wine), and kaperosalata (onion and caper leaves spread).

DAY 10: LAST DAY IN SIFNOS

On your last day in Sifnos, we recommend visiting Atsonios Ceramics near Vathi to see a pottery demonstration and shop for unique pieces. Afterward, you can either return to the beach or head back to Artemonas to relax.

In the evening, stroll to Apollonia, the heart of the island in the evenings for shopping, dining, and nightlife. For dinner, try Cayenne Restaurant for a modern take on local cuisine, and enjoy drinks with a view at Botzi 93's rooftop bar.

DAY 11: ATHENS

Return your rental car before catching your ferry back to Athens. Reflect on the wonderful time spent island-hopping and the unique experiences each island offered.

Upon arrival, spend the night at your Athens hotel, or use this opportunity to explore the city one last time.

DAY 12: RETURN TO AUSTRALIA

Head to the airport for your flight home, cherishing the memories of your incredible trip.
